    The question of quality, economical heating remains relevant for Ukrainians. Despite the wide variety of offers on the heating market, many people still haven't found the optimal way to heat their homes. We asked Vadym Salamakha, the production manager of Ecoteplo (a leading manufacturer of electric heaters), about the different types of heaters, why electric radiators are better than water ones, and why infrared heating is needed.

Why did you decide to manufacture electric heaters?

          I am the production manager at Ecoteplo. I think this question is more for the founders, but I know the short backstory of why. A talented, versatile group of guys had a completely different vision of what heating should be. Before this, each of them was doing completely different things and had no connection to this field. After tariffs began to rise, it became extremely difficult for people to pay for utilities. Paying for gas heating was especially difficult. So the founders came up with the idea of creating new economical heaters. In the heating market, the Ecoteplo ceramic heater holds a leading position in Ukraine. It has two different types of heating elements. The first is a ceramic panel, which heats via infrared radiation, warming bodies and objects. The second is an X-shaped aluminum heating element. I want to note that this heating element is used only in our products and is patented by Ecoteplo. It heats up to 90 degrees, without burning oxygen, and very effectively heats the air. This is one of the newest innovations created in this heater. The ceramic panel heats up to 85-92 degrees, which prevents thermal burns. If, for example, a child accidentally touches the front panel, they won't get burned. This was done to protect people from injury. Creating such an innovative product was the founders' main goal.

Why does it have to be specifically an infrared heater?

       You know, that's quite a two-sided question. Because infrared heaters only heat the body and household objects. In this case, a person may not feel very comfortable, since the air itself doesn't heat up. I'd also like to emphasize that thanks to the aforementioned heating element, the air is heated through convection. This means that both household objects and the air get heated. However, convection isn't always used. If, for example, the room is large with a high ceiling, it's simply unrealistic to heat it through convection alone, and a regular electric radiator won't handle it. If the ceiling is six meters high, even the most powerful heater cannot heat such a room. Of course, you could buy an electric radiator and install it in such a room. However, it most likely won't be effective. In such cases, infrared heaters are installed, which heat household objects or the human body directly. We can encounter such cases in warehouses or, say, in sports halls. In this case, this type of heating is appropriate.

In your opinion, why are ceramic heaters better than water-based ones?

       You can't say one is definitively better and the other worse. There are priorities here. A water radiator requires a boiler, which is an extra expense. Whereas an electric ceramic radiator operates autonomously. Right now we're seeing a trend where permits are being issued for autonomous heating in homes. Electric heating in particular is very popular. Because it's more eco-friendly, easier to maintain, and doesn't carry risks like the risk of carbon monoxide leaking from a water heater. If you're setting up autonomous heating, it's recommended to install CO2 sensors. There are many cases of people being poisoned by carbon monoxide. Electric heating is the optimal option for the private sector. If someone has a single floor of 120 square meters and has added an attic, they don't need to obtain permits, extend radiators, or change a boiler. Because boilers aren't always designed for that area. Standard boilers are designed for 120-240 square meters. They're most often installed for 120 square meters, in which case they'll operate at peak power. That's why electric heating is recommended. Electric heaters are economical, convenient to use, and safe. Our ceramic heaters with a thermostat help maintain the required room temperature around the clock. This is especially beneficial for those with a two-tariff meter. There's also our company's newest development - a Wi-Fi module, thanks to which a person can remotely set the room temperature and control it via smartphone from anywhere in the world. The "smart home" trend is actively developing now, and we try to keep up with these trends.

Are electric heaters only wall-mounted?

        No. Electric heaters come in various types. First of all, autonomous heating can only be wall-mounted, fixed, and stationary. That is, an electric radiator mounted on the wall is installed statically and isn't meant to be moved. Another way to install heaters is on legs or casters, so a person can move the device. A very convenient one is the ceramic panel we developed last year - the Duo heater, with a power of 1 kW/h, which operates in two modes. Many people bought it for heating office spaces. That covers stationary heater models. There are also heaters installed on the ceiling - infrared heaters. They are used in cold rooms where it's unrealistic to heat the area through convection alone. There are also floor heaters installed near doors. Panoramic windows are popular now, and it's recommended to install such devices near them. They are mounted in the floor and prevent cold air from entering the room. There are also heat curtains. This type is often found in office spaces and shops. So these are the widely used types of heating elements.

          There are many heating options, but it's important to pay attention to indicators such as cost-effectiveness, heating quality, safety of use, etc. when choosing. How much does it cost to heat a room up to 18 m2?

Models in the Air 700 line (ME and EL versions) have a power of 700 W - designed for rooms up to 18 m2.

Consumption calculation: 0.7 kW x 10 hours of operation per day = approximately 7 kWh. Actual consumption is lower than this figure thanks to the thermostat, which switches off heating once the room reaches the set temperature.
